CAD to Life
In this week’s project, I used Adobe dimension to make my log rides come to life! Using the logs I made in Fusion from last week, I found some nice images online of empty rides and put in my designs. These are the results:
My workflow started with exporting the logs from Fusion as fbx files and saving them on my desktop. Then, I found some images from the internet that I felt they would incorporate well into. I opened up Adobe Dimension and first put in the logs, and added the images after. There is an option in Dimension to match the lighting of the 3D objects to the lighting of the images, so I opted for that first before adjusting the lighting further. Since the images are all outside, I turned up the brightness on the lighting of the logs and rotated it based on which angle it seemed like the sun was shining. It was not a perfect workflow, but the first image is the one I am most proud of. The first image moved the most seamlessly, especially with the shadows of the logs.
I struggled with the shadows cast by the log cars in the other images. It was challenging to add shadows so they look natural, while also adjusting for the brightness of the environments. I had to reference pictures of objects sitting in bright, direct sunlight. Overall, I am pleased with the outcome and found Adobe Dimension relatively intuitive. I did have to recolor my images in Dimension, but their preset materials worked well.
